Surgical Dermatology

Unfortunately, not all skin cancers can be treated the same way.  Each skin cancer requires and individualized approach to best address and treat the area. Certain serious skin cancers require a more invasive approach in which the area of skin must be surgically removed. Treating skin cancer and other conditions requires a two-fold approach that (1) ensures the complete removal of the cancerous or diseased tissue to prevent, as much as possible, future health concerns; and (2) minimizes the impact of the surgery on your appearance, especially when the treatment involves highly visible areas of the body such as the head and face.

Thus, when choosing a physician to treat your skin cancer, it is critical to select a surgeon with the necessary training and experience to handle both aspects of your care: the medical and the aesthetic. Our highly-trained Board certified dermatologists have years of experience removing skin lesions.  Dr. Jamie L. McGinness and Dr. Diana Vork will discuss all the risks and benefits about surgical removal of your skin cancer with you, and we will tailor our surgical approach specifically to you to give you the best possible outcome.  Some skin cancers are particularly difficult to remove due to their location on the body such as the face or other sensitive areas.  In these cases,  Dr. Jamie L. McGinness can help.  Dr. McGinness is a Board certified dermatologist and fellowship trained Mohs surgeon specializing in the treatment of skin cancer, specifically with Mohs surgery, an advanced, highly effective technique that has up to a 99% cure rate.  Moreover, Dr. McGinness’ extensive expertise includes the advanced surgical reconstructive techniques required to repair the skin after Mohs surgery and return it, as closely as possible, to its pre-surgical condition.
