Overall Skin Checks

SKIN CHECKS: SKIN EXAMS AND SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS

Taking care of your skin involves more than just using the right products and wearing sunscreen every day. Seeing a dermatologist for an annual skin check and skin cancer screening can help you identify potential problems and answer any questions you have about your skin health. A new mole or a patch of skin can look completely harmless on the surface but could be a sign of a more serious condition. With regular skin checks, a doctor can take a close look at your skin and identify any red flags early.

An overall skin check involves a head-to-toe skin exam of the following areas:

  • Scalp
  • Face
  • Mouth
  • Hands
  • Feet
  • Trunk
  • Extremities
  • Eyelids
  • Ears
  • Fingers
  • Toes

If you have any moles or patches of skin you have questions about, this is a great time to get a professional opinion. Any unusual or suspicious looking spots the doctor finds may require using a dermatoscope for a closer view. Our specialists perform skin checks and skin cancer screenings at our practice. Our Board certified dermatologists have extensive experience diagnosing skin cancer and other skin conditions. If we detect something suspicious during your skin exam, we might ask you to come in more frequently to monitor it or perform a biopsy, if necessary.  If the lesion is found to be cancerous, we often have options for treatment, including excision performed by either of our board-certified dermatologists, or Mohs micrographic surgery performed by Dr. McGinness, a Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon with highly-specialized training in Mohs Surgery and Reconstruction.
